Future of Home Entertainment
What will the home entertainment system of the future look like? There are a number of changes coming, among them 3-D HDTV sets that will not need glasses. Expect television manufacturers to work out the details of providing these next-generation sets within the next three or four years. Also expect the amount of 3-D content available from cable and satellite providers to increase as these TVs begin to grow in popularity.
Also, look for TVs to continue to add more internet functionality. Currently, many sets allow the viewer to access Facebook, Youtube, and a number of other websites. The ability of televisions to process an ever greater number of websites and to interact with them like a computer will increase to the point that some will use their television as their main home computer.
All these fancy, futuristic TVs will need even fancier storage media, right? Don’t count on it. Instead be on the watch for an ever-increasing amount of DVR storage. Blu-Ray recording will likely become obsolete as the storage capacity for DVRs becomes enormous. Also watch for downloadable content from cable providers and Netflix to grow exponentially to the point that DVDs and Blu-Rays vanish.
